Since Virtual Business Meetings (VBM’s) were permitted in the Order, the Province has taken a proactive line in facilitating these when Preceptories wished to hold them. The response from the Preceptories and members has been overwhelming. The VBM’s follow a simple structure, with the permitted business and then a short talk on a subject relevant to the Order, usually given by a member of the Provincial Team. Each meeting also has a representative of the Province who keeps the members updated on what is happening in the Order. The formality of the meeting usually lasts about 25 minutes and when this I closed the members stay for social interaction. Recordings of the meetings are made available afterwards to Preceptory members who could not attend. Since the VBM’s commenced there have been almost 50 meetings, with an average attendance of Preceptory members and visitors in the mid 30’s.
The Provincial Prior, Hearl Lenton said ‘I continue to be immensely proud of our wonderful Order, Province. and Knights. This pride is one of humility when I hear of all the work that is being undertaken to keep our Knights together, supported and looking forward. It may be the hugely successful Virtual Business Zoom meetings and lectures now being delivered’. He went on to say that ‘the social interaction of these meetings should not be underestimated. We must remember that is some cases, particularly for those members who live alone, these meetings are a godsend. It is also pleasing to see Knights who have moved away from the Province attending the meetings’.
